Ring of Fire® Technology

Prior to the development of 3SAE’s patented Ring of Fire® splicing technology, standard fusion splicing tools were unable to accommodate the splicing of fibers larger than 600 microns. The three phase arc design behind Ring of Fire® technology expands the area plasma to accommodate fibers greater than 1 millimeter, twice that of a standard fusion splicer. Below is a brief introduction to Ring of Fire® technology and how it can be used to achieve efficient, high-strength fusion splicing for large diameter fiber & specialty optical fibers. This technology is available in many 3SAE products and supports applications from polyimide coating removal to creating fiber based tapers, end caps, mode field adapters (MFA’s), and optical combiners.

Liquid Clamp Technology

3SAE Technologies’ Liquid Clamp Cleaver LDF, is a tension-based LDF cleaving technology designed explicitly for cleaving fibers from 125 to 1000µm in diameter. The Liquid Clamp Cleaver LDF utilizes a novel, patented liquid metal to secure the scrap portion of the cleaved fiber. Liquid clamp cleaving technology revolutionizes LD fiber cleaving by ensuring that fibers are clamped in a purely torque-free manner, thereby minimizing fiber cleave angles. As a result, the Liquid Clamp Cleaver LDF produces low angle cleaves with industry-leading consistency.

Multi Axis Alignment Technology

3sae’s Precision Parallel Positioning Stage,the Pentapod™, is a patented Kinematic 5 Axes Micro Positioning Stage design that combines the benefits of a Parallel stage (Hexapod) and a Serial stage providing 5 Degrees of Freedom (DOF). The Pentapod™ is a true “parallel kinematic design” offering extremely high X and Y positional stiffness with minimal crosstalk in all axes.

Burst Technology

Our patented Burst Technology™ is our exclusive patented process for achieving ultra high strength stripping and cleaning of optical fiber. The unique process begins with a controlled, single high velocity “burst” of superheated air or nitrogen directed to the optical fiber. The primary coating is rapidly heated, instantly vaporized and separated from the glass cladding underneath. The stripped region(s) of the fiber will remain intrinsically clean and in near pristine condition.
