FK12 Angled Ultrasonic Fiber Cleaver

The Photon Kinetics FK12 Angled Ultrasonic Fiber Cleaver sets the standard for low reflectance fiber termination of better than -60 dB. Fast and repeatable cleaving of fiber ends at user-selectable cleave angles (0 – 15 degrees) make it possible for installers to reduce the reflectance of mechanical splices and other fiber terminations without the use of index-matching gels.


The FK12 features a precision diamond blade attached to a resonant acoustic-stepped horn. An electronic circuit starts and maintains the ultrasonic horn resonance for the duration of the cleave.  The ultrasonically vibrating blade moves slowly towards the tensioned fiber on stictionless damped bearings. Cleaving takes place without the compressive stresses and blade intrusion into the fiber that is typical of conventional cleavers.


The FK12 angled ultrasonic fiber cleaver provides trouble-free cleaving over many thousands of cleaves. This design does not require constant adjustment to stay “in tune”. When the used blade is worn, the operator easily adjusts the blade to bring a new part of the cutting edge into use.


The FK12 is the tool of choice when quick fiber termination and low return loss are required for minimum cost.
